Last month, the Federation and the United Nations Association for Violence signed a Memorandum of Understanding to formalize a new partnership agreement. Both organizations are committed to building a collaborative and mutually beneficial working relationship. Boeing confirms that its exclusive agreement with engine manufacturer General Electric on the 777X is not limited to life, but subject to a continuous letter of intent, as proposed (Flight International, January 25-31). The company says an extension of the agreement, which covers the period beyond a proposed date for the first quarter, is “not necessary.” While our two organizations have been working together for a long time, this formal agreement opens the door to new opportunities and common benefits for our respective members, including the following. As part of this new agreement, Federation members can participate in the upcoming EVA BC Trauma Conference, for the same cost as EVA members. “Working with Survivors of Gender-Based Violence: Understanding the Neurobiology of Trauma” will take place On May 1 and 2 in Richmond. While the upcoming Asian Aerospace Show Boeing could have offered a launch showcase, the company is discussing the best time to report the program`s launch from a strategic perspective. Boeing said: “The first deliveries will take place in September 2003, which would mean a take-off in the first half of this year. Otherwise, we do not go into detail. LA Taiwanese EVA Airways has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Boeing for seven 777X, which allows the program to take off completely at a delay. The EVA had opted for the ultra-long-haul Airbus A340-500. Boeing Commercial is expected to go to the Board of Directors on February 28 to approve the launch of the program, but it is not expected to be officially launched until all of its launch customers have had time to ratify the commitments of their own boards of directors. Although Boeing refuses to confirm the agreement, it is assumed that EVA`s commitment includes four ultra-long-haul 200X and three of the largest capacity -300X-version. Five more aircraft are optional. It is assumed that both parties are discussing a 777X order trade against part of its fleet. The EVA operation, if ratified, significantly reversed an important strategic victory for Airbus in the Asian long-haul market by obtaining a similar Memorandum of Understanding for six A340-500s, which later became obsolete. The commitment also means that Boeing has registered enough orders to move forward with the 777-200X/300X. However, it is assumed that the company is considering a brief delay in the official launch of the program, as it attempts to expand its client portfolio in order to achieve greater impact. The other customers of the launch will be Japan Airlines (JAL), which is known to have requested the authorization of the card for the order of five 777-300X with options for five additional aircraft, and Air France, which would have an initial requirement for up to 10 aircraft.

Emirates is poised to become a leader in the -300X start-up group, while leasing giants GE Capital Aircraft Services and International Lease Finance are seen as strong customers.
